![]() ![]() And it's not a hill I care that much to die on. ![]() It still doesn't totally support what I thought was the story. During Quake's development we were playing MP3s in the game that were created by a friend of Trent's that were really really great - I wish we would have kept those songs and played them as MP3s. If we had played the music as MP3's instead of CD Audio i believe people would have really identified with it more - 99% of people who play Quake don't play it with the CD in the drive. ![]() Trent didn't spend much time on it and the only real standout track was the title song. John Romero: Yes, I'm sure actual music was better than what Quake had. How did the Quake soundtrack affect the creation of the levels and the monsters? Was Reznor involved before the vote to make the game more akin to Doom? Both were instrumental (pun intended) in building up the products involved. I myself am split on the issue, Jeehung Hwang did an excellent job creating some cool music with both, whereas (in Quake) Trent Reznor crafted textures that had me convinced early on that the CD soundtrack was actually just the in-game ambient sounds. Scar3crow: Speaking of the missionpacks, many people preferred them, music-wise over Quake itself. But I swear that there was some basis of my version of it. The lack of release over these decades is even more mind-boggling when you consider it was put together by Nine Inch Nails' Reznor himself.I didn't want to make a big deal of it, and Im cool with my version of the story being wrong. But despite the love and buzz, the soundtrack never got the type of release other high profile original accompaniments have scored. The Quake soundtrack is being remastered for re-release this year and will be available on streaming services soon. The soundtrack for the iconic, genre-defying first-person shooter from 1996 is lauded as one of the best game soundtracks ever assembled, helping bring the game's ambiance and world-building to life. ![]() It is also reminiscent of the dark ambient music of Coil. It is notable that this soundtrack contains ambient music, which Reznor went on to explore further with the Ghosts series and various scores created with Atticus Ross. Reznor was also responsible for the game's sound effects. Historically, there was confusion as to whether the soundtrack was credited to NIN or Trent Reznor alone, but this was cleared up by id Software designer American McGee and by the 2020 vinyl edition. Quake is a video game by id Software released on June 22, 1996, which features music by Nine Inch Nails. One of the most iconic soundtracks in gaming history is finally getting the remastered vinyl release it always deserved. Legendary Quake soundtrack hits remastered vinyl! Quake is the soundtrack album to the 1996 id Software video game of the same name, composed by Trent Reznor and his industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails.
